Once they're all down on paper, start by eliminating those topics that are difficult or not as relevant as others topics. Finally, your concluding statement should articulate your voice or opinion. The body of your essay will consist of paragraphs which function as building blocks in the construction of your overall paper. The body is where you demonstrate your knowledge and grasp of the material that you have read. Notice the keywords including academic learning and literacy centres and the most effective approach. It’s very important to ensure that you fully analyse and understand the question before you start writing. Ultimately, your conclusion must demonstrate that you have fully answered the question. Please keep in mind the keywords ‘in red’, which we will identify in our sample conclusion in a moment. Always recall the essay question as you write and continually link your body paragraphs to the essay question. Also, get rid of those topics that are too challenging or that you're just not that interested in. Pretty soon you will have whittled your list down to just a few topics and then you can make a final choice. It's an underestimated online source because it can be updated by the users, but it offers great information that you can use in your paper. If the assignment is from the same area of study, you can include the writer’s ID in the order form and we’ll do our best to team you up again. It needs to connect all loose ends of the paper's body, restate the thesis statement, and end with a bang. These, in turn, should support the overarching novel argument that you yourself are making. In essence, the wording of the essay question will tell you how the essay should be written. It will indicate where the focus of your essay should lie as you research and write. It is important to show that you understand both core theories in great depth, both on a theoretical and applied level. Once you submit the form, we’ll assign a team of a researcher, writer, and editor to your assignment. In general, a short essay will have at least three full paragraphs; a long essay considerably more. Think of your introduction as a thumbnail picture of the whole essay. Anyone, but especially the marker, should know the essay subject and how you intend to prove or disprove it, just from having read just the introduction. So without further ado, let's dive in and learn the eight steps to writing an essay. Our writers are also native speakers, so you won’t need to worry about grammar and tone. You’ll give us all instructions through the order form. You should already know this, but most professors and instructors will start grading your work in their head as soon as they begin reading it. Rather, we are talking about a formal argument. An idea or a claim, which is supported by logic and/or evidence. And most will have some notion of where your essay falls on that scale before they even finish the introduction. It will be the rarest of markers who withholds judgement until the end. The introduction is something you absolutely must start strong. Now, by argument we don’t mean a slanging match between two angry people. You will note that this second example is far more concise yet none of the meaning is lost. It also uses present tense, and avoids informal terms. Clear, concise, and precise language is a hallmark of academic writing. As such, it is important that you provide evidence when you are making a statement of fact, or drawing on arguments, frameworks, and theories presented by other academics.

Writing Essays

Writing Essays Get someone else to read the essay and to try and extract the main points. And actually that's not a very good plan, because when you go down to write something you don't know what you're going to say. You know what you're going to talk about, but you don't know what you're going to say about it. Sum up the main points and briefly restate your argument. If you refer to an important historical event, you must make a point or comment about it. This will stop your essay from becoming a simple narrative and it shows you are trying to analyse events rather than just describe them. Start a new paragraph for each new important point and any linked points that relate to the question. It is a lot easier to rethink the organization when you are looking at brief notations than when you are looking at the entire text. After you have rearranged your notations, you can cut and paste your document to match the new outline. By this time, you will have received feedback on your first draft, which you need to review carefully. Look for patterns in the responses or questions that are raised by readers. But, most likely, you will fall in love with the paper at first sight. If something is wrong with our website, or if you have trouble with a payment or downloading your paper and require some immediate help, you don't have to wait for an hour or more. I recommend it, and would like to see it used more widely by my students. If you are among those cold-blooded students who remain cool and try to get the most even in the most extreme situations, then this offer is for you. Before getting a complete version of the paper, you will have a chance to preview the prepared draft and provide your feedback. You may include quotations from other historians and refer to primary sources to support a particular point. A student can access this book in the same way that they access a personal tutor. they can identify the problem and read the relevant section, where the response is clear and examples are provided. You also need to reread your first draft with a fresh eye, as though you were reading it for the first time. Once you feel you have covered what you want to cover, read through again to make sure that the organization and development are logical. One strategy for doing this is to note in the margin in a few words the point of each paragraph. Take those brief phrases and look at them to see whether they follow logically or require reorganizing. Make any appropriate changes to your organization and development. Nixon’s Declaration Of The War On Drugs - Free Essay Example

The War on Drugs began in the 20th Century and aimed to address the marijuana and opioid epidemic that plagued the United States. The War on Drugs, declared in the 1970s by President Richard Nixon, primarily targeted nonviolent drug offenders and resulted in unprecedented growth of the U.S. penal system and has been criticized for creating a â€Å"new Jim Crow† in which incarcerated people of color are targeted for arrest, and put into jails where they work for free or low wages. Marijuana was deemed an issue to society in the 1930s by the United States government. This made marijuana illegal. This was like prohibition but for marijuana. There was an FBI agent named of Harry J. Anslinger who was the force behind the marijuana tax act of 1937. He did this because he wanted to find another way to make minorities inferior to the White race because it states in the article â€Å"Most marijuana smokers are Negroes, Hispanics, jazz musicians, and entertainers. Their satanic music is driven by marijuana, and marijuana smoking by white women makes them want to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and others. It is a drug that causes insanity, criminality, and death — the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind†. The article that this information was derived from was The Roots of Marijuana Prohibition – Harry Anslinger and the Marihuana Tax Act . There was propaganda for the idea that marijuana was a bad drug for example there was a anti weed movie called â€Å"reefer madness†. This movie was made in 1937 in support of the marijuana tax act. Richard M. Nixon was elected thirty-seventh President of the United States of America and intercepted a broken country upon his arrival to the Oval Office in 1968. This year was crucial because Nixon could have either wielded his Presidential power to end the stormy nature of the 60s or let country continue to fall apart before the new the new decade in the United States of America. This was a hectic decade because of the tremulous events that included the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Civil RIghts Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alongside Anti-war protests of Vietnam, and the African American Civil Rights movement. The riots occurred in cities such as Los Angeles, California, Newark, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Illinois, and also Detroit Michigan . Als,o the veterans were addicted to drugs like heroin, marijuana, and amphetamines. And the hippies who frequently smoked marijuana His plan to mend the country was to target minorities and dissenters of the war on drugs. On June the 17th of 1971 at a press conference on capitol hill in Washington D.C President Richard M. Nixon declared a war on drugs. He identified drug abuse as â€Å"public enemy number one†This saw the rapid increase of federal drug control agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Another drug enforcement agency that Nixon helped create was called the Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention (SAODAP). At this time the creation of these agencies cost 73 billion the American taxpayers dollars. John Ehrlichman admitted in an interview in 1994 that â€Å"the real public enemy in 1971 wasn’t really drugs or drug abuse† that Nixon only did this because he hated African American people ananti-protesters. He thought if we can’t lock them up for being black and being against the war we could lock them up for drugs. They locked protesters up for marijuana and African Americans up for heroin. By doin g this they could disrupt the communities. They knew that they were lying about the war on drugs. After President Nixon declared the war on drugs in the 70s it led to the Reagan administration with the â€Å"Just Say No† to drugs campaign in the 80s. The Just Say No movement was started by President Ronald Reagan in October of 1982 when he also declared a war on drugs after he announced it to the nation in his weekly radio address. The face of the Just says no campaign was the first lady Nancy Reagan. Mrs. Reagan had campaign rallies all over the United States. She also went to schools and told children about the â€Å"dangers of drugs† . She also made a guest appearance on a season 5 episode of the hit 80s television show called â€Å"Different Strokes† when she tries to promote anti-drug use when she spoke at Arnold and Willis school â€Å"to warn the students about the dangers of drugs† the campaign lasted throughout the 1980s. This campaign looked good on the surface because it warned people about drug use, and dont get me wrong I think that drug use is bad but some people had to make a living from selling drugs because selling drugs was their only source of income. The rap artist â€Å"Jay Z† br iefly talks about this in this video I found talking about the drug policy President Reagan like President Nixon thought of drugs as the enemy but he felt more passionate about the war drugs use by using military terms like a battle, war, and surrender. The main target that the War on drugs were African American and Hispanic communities that were then This was one of the reasons why African Americans were incarcerated. They were incarcerated because of the â€Å"crack† cocaine epidemic in urban areas such as New York City, New York Los Angeles, California, Newark, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Illinois, and also Detroit Michigan and countless other inner-city areas. This saw a rapid increase in incarceration for example if someone had 5 grams of cocaine they would get a minimum of 5 years in prison . The things that African Americans have to go through are like the new Jim Crow someone even wrote a book about it. On January 5th, 2010 a book titled â€Å"The New Jim Crow† was published. The book was written by a legal scholar named Michelle Alexander. The book talks about African Americans being â€Å"trapped in a justice system†. What she means by that is African Americans having their lives were taken from them and their families being ripped apart. She also quotes that People are swept into the criminal justice system — particularly in poor communities of color — at very early ages typically for fairly minor, nonviolent crimes, she tells Fresh Airs, Dave Davies. [The young black males are] shuttled into prisons, branded as criminals and felons, and then when theyre released, theyre relegated to a permanent second-class status, stripped of the very rights supposedly won in the civil rights movement — like the right to vote, the right to serve on juries, the right to be free of legal discrimination and employment, and access to education and public benefit s. Many of the old forms of discrimination that we supposedly left behind during the Jim Crow era are suddenly legal again, once youve been branded a felon. African Americans were being put to work in the Prison Industrial Complex. The Prison Industrial Complex is prison labor which is modern day slavery. For example, there was this former drug dealer named Kevin Rashad Johnson who was wrongfully convicted of a drug-related murder and was sent to a Virginia Prison was sentenced to death but he never got executed they just use him for labor to put money in their pockets. The prison system is unjust because even in you are put in jail as a child they will change your sentence for their own good Overall, Nixon’s declaration of the war on drugs devastated the African American community in a very drastic way. Simple drug charges became a catalyst for the penal system to maintain the suppression of the African-American community. Just like Kevin Rashad Johnson who exemplified this problem by being wrongfully accused of a drug-related murder. He was made to work in prison for free, and that was one of many examples of how the war on drugs declared by President Richard Nixon destroyed the black community.

Essay Sample on Social Criticism in Oliver Twist

Essay Sample on Social Criticism in Oliver Twist Free sample essay on Oliver Twist: Charles Dickens wrote Oliver Twist in 1849 with the zeal of a reformer in order to expose the ugliness of material of the Victorian Age. He was a ruthless critic of the Victorian Society. A note of social satire runs through almost all his novels. Pickwick Papers was hilarious comedy still it exposed the corruption rampant in the election system and the general law, moral climate of the society. But with Oliver Twist Dickens almost emerged as a crusader against the social evils of his times. In Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickleby, Bleak House, Hard Times and Little Dorrit, he flayed (highly criticized) the social institutions with devastating force. Edmund Wilson remarks that Dickens was of all the great Victorian writers probably most antagonist to the Victorian Age itself. Along with giving poetic shape to the better characteristics of English life, he also attacked the abuses in the society especially in the workhouse (poor and beggars dwelling), educational system, pawn-broken (shroff) shops, slums, delay in law offices, all the London Haunts of crime and pain. Dickens was the advocate of the downtrodden and the oppressed. He aroused the conscience of the public and he became the heart and conscience of England. He is the mast er of our sunniest smiles and our most unselfish tears, Lord Carlisle remarked. His age was an age of transition. The Industrial Revolution was rapid gaining power and England was changing from a country that was mainly agricultural to a country that was mainly industrial. Dickens criticizes the society in almost exclusively moral way. His criticism reminds us of the grave folds common more or less to all mankind. He was truly a Victorian and yet he is for all ages. In Oliver Twist, Dickens has presented the pathos of innocent childhood and protest against the abuses of powers, especially on the part of the governmental institution. He throws light on the workhouse system of those days in England. As the same time he has exposed the defects of the Poor Law of 1834 which aimed at abolishing begging and unemployment. The novel deals with the sad story of sorrows and struggles of an orphan boy and his ultimate union with well-deserved happiness. The first part of the novel presents the early childhood of Oliver in the workhouse and about his days of service as an apprentice. The later part of the novel deals with Olivers experience in London where he is caught in the net of a master criminal named Fagin. Dickens wants to show how crime is bred (brought up). The story describes how Oliver keeps his honesty and purity in the midst of sinful ways and how he finally finds the happy home amongst good and kind people. Through the story of Oliver, Dickens has exposed the corrupt class system prevalent in the 17th Century England. His zeal for social reform lag him to satirize the social institutions. The novel is an attack on the inhuman conditions of subsistence in the work houses, the idiocy of law and the unsatisfactory medical facilities. Dickens has also shown what it was meant to be a charity child. The indifference of the government and the people towards the welfare of children, specially orphans is epitomized in Olivers sufferings. The workhouse world is full of a bitter and pitiful comedy. The novelist attacks the demons of cruelty and callousness (kathortha). The workhouses were meant for helping the poor but in fact Oliver and other boys had to suffer slow starvation. The philosophers Managing the work house were very sage, deep, philosophical men. In their eyes the workhouse had become a regular place for public entertainment so they decided to set things right. They contacted with the waterworks to lay on unlimited supply of water and with a corn factory to supply small quantities of oatmeal and issued 3 meals of thin gruel (soup like) a day with an onion twice a week. The diet was given in such small quantity that the bowls never wanted washing. The boys polished them with their spoons till they shone (of shine) again. Olivers demand for more food was considered as a crime and as a punishment he was sent away to the undertakers (coffin seller) house. The sick and dying were not properly cared. This can be seen in the example of Olivers dying mother. The novel presents cruelty and meanness of Parish (jurisdiction) authorities. This can be seen in the portrayal of Mrs. Mann, Mr. Corney, Mr. Bumble, Mr. Mrs. sowerberry (undertaker) Mrs. Man, was incharge of Baby farm. Being a very great practical philosopher and a woman of wisdom and experience, she appropriated the greater part of the weekly stipend to her own use. The parish doctors were usually the cheapest and most inexperienced Doctors. This Parish authorities starved and ill treated poor under their care in order to make money for themselves. Mr. Mrs. Sowerberry ill treat Oliver so much that Oliver eventually runs away from their house. The death of the power is neglected. A poor woman dies of starvation and the clergymen comes after an hour, reads as much of the burial services as he can compress in 4 minutes and walks away. The unprotected, neglected, starved and beaten children were led to enter the world of crime. Fagin is the leader of a gang of young pickpockets who also deals in stolen goods. The young victims are The Dodger, Charle Bades, Tom Chitling and later Noah Claypole worked for him. All these boys are engaged in pick pocketing. Young boys of streets were trained by giving them tobacco and wine, and was making them think that the life of a criminal was something romantic. In the novel crime is shown to be ugly as well as miserable. Dickens has lighted up the dark places that his well-to-do readers did no exists or had not troubled to know. Social parasite like Fagin is the breader of the criminals he makes young thieves work for him and if they are caught, they suffer imprisonment and even death while he gets off scot-free. The description of the criminal activities of Fagin and his band is a realistic picture of the underworld of London of those days. People in general were addicted to smoking and drinking. In cities there were public houses which serves beer to the public and which were the breeding place of crimes and gathering places of criminals. We have the Three Cripples (hotel) as the specimen. Oliver had a drink at one such house while on hi sway to London from his native place. Sikes too had his food and drink at another house during the course of his flight. The residential quarters of the people of the lower strata of the society were shame for a government of the days. Those houses had practically no ventilations, they were dark and almost cell-like. The streets surrounding them were narrow, muddy and foul-smelling quiet favourable for outbreaks of epidemics. Fagins den illustrates this. There was a system of apprenticeship in trades. Boys were engaged as apprentices by traders. The workhouse authorities gave 5 pounds to Sowerberry for engaging Oliver as an apprentice. The traders used to treat the young apprentices m ost cruelly. We see Oliver running away from his master into the wide wicked world for the cruel treatment that he received at the Sowerberry household. Thus Oliver Twist serves as a mirror that shows the social condition of England of the early 19th century. In writing the novel Dickenss aim was not only to amuse the public but also to lightup the dark places that is well to do readers did not know exists or had not troubled to know. The life in London as revealed in this book opens the eyes of thousands born and bread in the same city. Dickens did not want that the one half of mankind should like in happy ignorance of how the other half dies.

Intervention strategies and assessment for disasters in japan and Essay

Intervention strategies and assessment for disasters in japan and proposed ways to deal with associated difficulties - Essay Example Vulnerability is envisaged as both a biophysical hazard and a social response which is specific to a geographical domain. According to Brillinger (2003) risk analysis can be defined as a way which is used for estimating the probabilities of some rare events and the magnitudes of damage that comes along with them. The papers considered risk analysis of different natural disasters like earthquakes, floods and wildfires. Risk can be defined as probability that some hazardous event or catastrophe can occur. Statistical methods are the basic ways to assess risk and used for the computation of insurance premiums as well. These methods are favourable as they use probabilities and data which can help in risk management. McEntire (2005) discussed the positive and negative aspects related to different views about the disasters and he suggested that the concept of vulnerability can be used for finding for academia and make policy guidance for different professionals in different fields especially for the natural hazards. Paton (2007) worked and examined the relationship between people and sources of information that provide information which can influence people’s perception about the hazard/ disaster preparedness. To analyze this relationship between trust and the hazard preparedness a regression analysis was conducted. The study showed that there exists a relationship between people and the community services/civic agencies and the information they provide is very important and should be a part in planning risk communication. Strà ¶mberg (2007) examined and suggested that societal factors affect and place an important impact on disasters. This papers takes into account many of the natural disasters taking place that includes volcanoes, floods, tsunami as to where they take place and what their development with the period of time. Then this paper discusses that how come societal factors act in favour of people by
